Program : MANU BIOSPHERE RESERVE – BLANQUILLO
DURATION 7 days and 6 nights
DAY 1: Cusco – CLOUD FOREST
We wake up early to leave Cusco and begin a winding ascent into the Andes. After a brief stop in chullpas Ninamarca (pre-Inka) the road starts to descend towards the village of Paucartambo where we stop to stretch our legs again and discover some interesting facts about this colonial town.
Leaving Paucartambo we begin your ascent through eucalyptus groves, cultivated fields, and remnant patches of native vegetation. Forty minutes from Paucartambo you reach Acjanaco at 3,500 meter atop the Eastern Cordillera of the Andes. At this point you have entered the Manu Biosphere Reserve where you are above the clouds gazing below into the lush jungle of the Amazon. As we ascent down from Acjanaco, the baron Paramo starts to change to an elfin forest.
Here we will stop for lunch to admire the view to descend further into the cloud forest where the tree canopy covered by mist gives life to numerous epiphytes, moss, luscious green ferns and the Kur-Kur (high land bamboo). This area is a natural playground for a vast number of birds. You make your way to an observation post where, with a little luck, you will be able to watch the fascinating dance of Peru’s National bird, the Cock-of-the-Rock and hopefully spot the Woolly monkey.
We will arrive at first lodge where we will spend the night. After a delicious meal we can enjoy the beautiful surroundings before turning in for the evening.
DAY 2 : Cloud Forest – AMARU MAYU
After a relaxing shower in the cascade, we return to have the breakfast then we take our luggage to continue the journey.
On the way we are doing some stop for visiting orchid garden and wildlife refuge “local project”, we set off to Atalaya fluvial port where we shall ride a boat upriver towards the Amaru Mayu lodge. During the boat ride, our guide will tell us about the different confluences of rivers in this area. Once installed in the lodge. Free afternoon and spend the night in the Amaru Mayu ecological reserve.
DAY 3 : AMARU MAYU – BLANQUILLO
We wake up early because we will spend most of the time river, in the headwaters of the Alto Madre de Dios River. We have a relaxed boat journey down stream to the lowland forest. During the trip you will enjoy the lunch on the boat. Throughout the day you can observe different types of flora and fauna. We continue your journey to reach Blanquillo lodge, it’s well known for having one of the largest macaw clay licks. If we have time we will hike the trails in the area. Here we will have dinner and spend the night.
DAY 4 : BLANQUILLO
Early morning we will go through one of the paths towards of the macaw clay lick. From the hide out we can fully enjoy the arrival of hundreds of parrots and parakeets, as the Macaws descend to supplement their diet with minerals from the clay. After this spectacular day we continue enjoy it.
Then we walk on the trails to majestic tree “lupuna ceiba” with a height of 50 meters where you will observe the treetops, some activities of birds and the beautiful landscapes over the platform.
Short walk towards Cocha Camungo for navigating forever the opportunity to observe the family of giant otter’s rivers, black caimans, taricayas, red deer, and some species of monkeys. Return to the lodge for lunch. Dinner and overnight in Blanquillo lodge.
DAY 5 : BLANQUILLO – SHINTUYA
After breakfast we will go to the boat to start sailing our way back upstream the Madre de Dios river, watching the spectacular scenery that shows the beauty of the forest before reaching the hostel Shintuya community. Depending on the time we can visit the thermal pool for a relaxing break. Dinner and overnight
DAY 6 : SHINTUYA – AMARU MAYU
Before the breakfast we walk into the trail to visit the golden cascade where feel us to take a shower and exploring the area
come back to the lodge for breakfast continue your journey by boat to arrive our last lodge Amaru Mayu.
Time for rest and enjoy the beauty of this paradise place. Dinner and spend night.
DAY 7 : Amaru Mayu – Cusco
After breakfast, time permitting to prepare our trip back to Cusco. On the road we will make a short stop for lunch.
Finally, we will be arriving to Cusco city around 6:00pm. End of our services.
