8 Days and 7 Nights

DAY 1 :   CUSCO – CLOUD FOREST

We  move  early to leave Cusco and begin a winding ascent through the Andes. Making our way towards the village of Paucartambo, where we stop to discover some interesting facts about this pictoric and folkloric rich, colonial Andean town.

Leaving Paucartambo, we reach the top of the most eastern andean montains, the vegetation starts to change very fast from here as we move down the mountain.

At this point, we  have entered the Manu Biosphere Reserve; where we reach above the clouds gazing below, into the lush jungle of the Amazon´s basin.  As we descend down from the Paramo,  the ecosystem begins to change to an elfin forest and then very fast into cloud forest…

Here we stop for lunch,  while admiring the view of this kosñipata valley,  in betwen cascades and warm brumes. We continue descending further into the cloud forest tree canopy, covered by mist, giving life to numerous, luscious green ferns and canopy forest. This area is a natural playground for a vast number of beautiful birds.

Along the road to MANU, we take a brake for a hike and, with a little luck, we will be able to observe Peru’s National bird, the Cock-of-the-Rock, as well as hopefully,  spot the Blue Crowned Mot Mot. Depending on time, we may make a short visit to enjoy the local animal rescue center. Shortly after we will arrive at our first jungle lodge in the town of ATALAYA, where, we  get a delicious dinner, and gratifying warm jungle night.


DAY TWO –  ATALAYA – MANU 

AMARU MAYU – HIGH JUNGLE.

After  the breakfast,  at  Atalaya river port,  we board a boat to move ford between the canyon,  upriver on the High Madre de Dios,  towards Amaru Mayu lodge. Once installed in the lodge,

we begin a near two hour trek to the trail Paititi Refuge or Lepanto tower. Crossing the mountain surrounded by primary forest and the possibilities to observe a variety of monkeys, and other wild life, that unaware of our presence, this jungle may offer…

To go back to our base camp;  this time we take the boat  back down the majestic river, where our brave profesional Boatman,  cleverly steers us safely through  the canyon. The rest of this afternoon we enjoy the alluring setting within this HIGH JUNGLE Atmosphere;   Our Home tonight… AMARU MAYU LODGE.


 

DAY THRE :   ECOLOGICAL VOLUNTARY RESERVE

FULL DAY-  MOUNTAIN TOP / HIGH JUNGLE  VIEWER.

This morning  will be a power breakfast full of nutrients as we start this memorable adventure, High Jungle day.

Hiking UP this mountain in 40 sportive  minutes,  we get  to the TOP. Here, in a smooth calm behave, we entrance in the prístine high jungle forest,  pursuing every little detail that nature diplays to us. Visiting cascades and getting an indepth vantage atop of this AMARU MAYU mountain , while; keeping increased energy with our snacks.

From here, we descend proximately back to the base camp;  where there is a delicious lunch  waiting for us . The rest of this short afternoon will be for your tranquil enjoyment.  Resting in comforts to integrate the days journey.


FORTH DAY:  FROM AMARU MAYU HIGH JUNGLE

TO NATIVES HOUSE.  CASA MATZIGUENKA IN THE LOW JUNGLE . RESERVE OR TOURÍSTIC ZONE.

In order to enter Manu National Park, making a brief stop at the Limonal  station, we show our authorization which gives us access to the park. We continue up the MANU river and savor the experience given by the natural world.

We will have lunch on the boat, and in the afternoon we arrive at Casa Matsiguenka lodge where we are greeted by the local host´s. The host´s bring to life the unique and undisturbed culture which is still so strongly alive through the generations. Tonight our home is here at  Casa Matsiguenka .


DAY 5 : CASA MATSIGUENKA 

Today, we will navigate in the Salvador Lake on a catamaran in search of the giant

otters (Pteronura brasiliensis) and explore the forest of the Casa Matsiguenka as we attempt to spot the spider monkey (Atheles paniscus) or the bustling peccaries (Tayassu peccary). After a full day of indulging in this region of the Amazon, we will rest, one last time, overnight at Casa Matsiguenka.

DAY 6 : CASA MATSIGUENKA  – SHINTUYA 

After breakfast we will take the boat traveling down Manu River, we will make a brief stop at the checkpoint Limonal to record our entrance.  We then connect back onto the Madre de Dios River, heading upstream; the spectacular landscape show us the beauty of this terrain. Soon to arrive at Shintuya lodge where we will be jumping down from the boat, without losing any more time, to splash into the hot springs for some pleasant HIGH JUNGLE swimming. Dinner at the lodge. Our guides will be constantly telling us about the TIME so we can experience the various activities, as we stay the night here at Shintuya HOT SPRINGS . PARADISE AND GOLDEN CASCADES.


DAY 7 : SHINTUYA – AMARU MAYU

Before breakfast, we walk the trail to visit the golden cascade where you have the priviledge to take a shower in and explore the area. We then come back to the lodge for breakfast and continue our journey, by boat, to arrive back at our Amaru Mayu lodge. Time for resting and enjoying the beauty of this paradise. Dinner and  overnight.

DAY 8 : AMARU MAYU – CUSCO

After breakfast, our time permits us to depart this jungle for our trip back to Cusco. On the road we will make a short stop for lunch and  arriving to Cusco city around 4 – 5:00pm.  End of program
